The 9 Inch Rear End originally developed by Ford has been at the pinnacle of Racing for years. This Legendary Bullet Proof Rear End has now been adapted to the Fbody frame so that Camaro and Firebird owners no longer have to be concerned with the well being of their weak and expensive 10 Bolt Rear Ends.

So why a 9 Inch for the Fbody?

Many have tried to build up the stock 10 Bolts with Covers and Welding and all sorts of new innovations in the hopes that it will last some decent times. In the End the small ring size of the 10 bolt will only allow a person to go so far. 12 bolts are another option however have been proven to be noisy, leaky, expensive and after all is said and done not that much more reliable than the weak 10 bolts that they have replaced. Leaving us with the 9 Inch, The 9 Inch is the quietest, strongest, easiest to work and in this case the cheapest rear end available.

So why doesnt everyone Have a 9 Inch on their F body then?

Many people don't realize how unreliable the other two choices are and because most GM people don’t know that much about Ford's design bigger drivetrain companies can jack up the price of their 9 Inch replacements without question.

So how can our 9 Inch replacements be so much cheaper than the competitors?

Moser, Currie and Strange charge anywhere from $2400 - $3600 for a 9 Inch replacement without shipping! These companies also do not give a very good Vendor discount so Vendors are forced to sell these products at a high price for little profit. The difference is that components on my 9 Inch replacements are gathered and assembled in house. We don’t pay Moser's high cost set up prices and we can go to Bulk Distributors to get are components at a much better price. This means you get a better value and if anyone has dealt with Moser before you know of their less than appealing gear set up issues.

Our 4L60E (4L65E) LS1 (LSX) LT1 Type transmission is …..And we say this without reservation…..the finest built performance automatic transmission in the industry. These transmissions are tough and built to handle whatever you dish out. We incorporate all the updates and modifications to compensate for the problems and issues they were born with from the factory. We believe you will not find a better performance transmission anywhere.
We offer these units in three levels. Below are the details of this build:

The Street PLUS is our lowest cost performance automatic transmission. It is rated to 350 HP and is suitable for most modest street / strip applications, mild towing / heavy duty use, or as an OEM replacement.

First, each core transmission is disassembled and carefully inspected. The case and hard parts are then cleaned thoroughly and re-inspected for cracks, wear, or other damage before we begin. The case is specially prepared, and a coating of and heavy duty, heat resistant, oil based enamel is baked on, creating a hard and durable glossy finish. The seals in the case are then replaced and assembly begins.

The rear planetary assembly and bearings are meticulously inspected, then assembled into case along with Alomatic reverse frictions and steels. At this time the center support and sprags (one way rollers) are installed after being inspected for stress cracks and damage. Also a special anti clunk device is installed to replace the OEM spring. This prevents the support from tearing through lugs in the case and reinforces the case.

Next the sun gear is inspected and four slots are machined into the bottom. This improves lubrication to the rear planetary assembly by allowing oil to escape from between the bearing the gear it rests against, feeding additional lube to the planetary gears. This is a huge improvement, and virtually eliminates one of the most common points of failure for this type of transmission. In fact, contrary to common opinion, the rear planetary assembly in the 4L60E is not in any way weak by design. Their failure is almost exclusively due to a lack of lubrication. When you see a 4L60E with a damaged rear planetary, it will almost always be accompanied by the blue-black signs of excessive heat. Put simply, 4L60E planetary assemblies with good lube DO NOT FAIL, even in the most demanding environments.

As we continue assembling the unit, we use heavy duty frictions throughout, and upgrade to “High Energy” 3-4 clutches and 2-4 band. The reverse input drum (the drum the band applies to) is resurfaced for better band brake hold. Then a 29 element forward sprag (the toughest available) is used to replace the OEM original sprag.

Then we replace the 2nd gear band servo with a corvette servo, which is the largest one offered by GM, and set the band clearance to the proper specification for maximum strength.

Now we move on to the pump. It is inspected and modified to provide maximum lube to the planetary sets. We install a large boost valve suitable for the application. The vanes in the pump are carefully inspected for wear and replaced as needed, steel pump rings are installed. The pump bushing is replaced with a Teflon bushing, and notches are made in pump surface to prevent its movement in even the most demanding high RPM or towing situations. This effectively eliminates front seal blow out. In addition, the front seal is installed with a special adhesive and seal retainer to eliminate any possibility of ever having a problem. The pump is the heart and soul of any automatic transmission, and we make sure it’s a healthy one.

The last section is the valve body. For this we use all we have learned over the years from considerable personal experience. What we have learned is, although most shift kits have certain distinct advantages, no one kit has all the best modifications…. some we liked others we didn’t. We took the best parts of each, and utilizing our own experience, created a set of modifications that is superior to all the others. We do not block accumulators, since the reason they exist is to prevent excessive shock to the transmission and drive train. With our transmissions, you will always have a solid, firm shift that will be linearly progressive. That means at light throttle you will feel a nice bump, letting you know the car or truck has shifted. As throttle is increased, the shifts will become more pronounced to the point of tire chirping in high performance vehicles or a firm shift at full throttle in a towing/hauling situation. It will not cause whiplash just cruising with your significant other or your grandmother around town, but will turn heads when laying it on the line. We also eliminate the partial lockup function GM mistakenly engineered into the transmission, thus eliminating converter shudder, premature converter clutch failure, and the well known code 1870, which causes high “line pressure”, no fourth gear, and teeth cracking shifts at low throttle. Lockup is either OFF or ON, not slipping off and on as it did with the factory PWM working. This does not affect performance, but it does have the added advantage of increasing low speed fuel efficiency, which at today’s fuel prices is like getting a bonus.

There you have it. This transmission is suitable as an everyday driver, but it does include upgrades for moderate performance use behind small blocks with 350 HP or less. It also comes with either a high stall (1800 to 2000) stock torque converter or a heavy duty low stall (1200 to 1400) unit, depending on your intended use.
